What is Hopae Sool?
Hopae Sool is a Korean martial art systematized by grandmaster Do Ki-Hyun.
Hopae served several times in Korean history as an identification card and every Korean had to wear hopae. There was written basic information about the owner as a name, birth, domicile or occupation on Hopae. In dangerous situations, Hopae, of course, was the only weapon that each Korean had with him, and so he learned to use it for self-defence.
These techniques have been systematized in recent decades by Korean Grandmaster of Taekkyun and fencing Do Ki-Hyun. Thus arose Hopae Sool, a martial art suitable as a supplement to every fighting style. This was also the idea of Grandmaster to create a platform for meeting students and teachers of various martial arts. The basic techniques are divided between the techniques in the grip and the very dangerous snap techniques.
Hopae is a very practical weapon for self-defence. It is easy to use, very dangerous and easily portable in your pocket, purse bag or behind a belt. Within a second you can very effectively use Hopae without any need of training. Grandmaster Do flies regularly with Hopae by plane :-)
